monochrome smiles

it comes in waves;
short bursts of happiness from whispers of memories
release me from the abyss,
the shoreline within reach but

a backwash always follows a swash.
a split second for the pain

to recede
to defeat – blissful inebriation –
all the light we cannot see is no longer on the horizon but touchable,
feel it wrap around me
if but only
discolouring grey scale

Time’s up
Tide’s out
the moon is now sun,
i again, am nothing more
just salt to the sea
